Job Description:
The Lawrence Public Schools is an urban school district serving
more than 13,000 students PK-12 in 26 schools with over 2,800
employees. - 94% of LPS students identify as Hispanic/Latino, 71%
for whom English is not their first language, and 31% are
identified as learning the English language. - The vision for LPS
is to provide all students with a rich, high-quality education that
closes the opportunity gap between our students and their peers
across the Commonwealth. Lawrence continues to implement the
district model called "open architecture" that empowers principals,
teachers, and families to create school programs tailored to the
needs of their students.

Role
The Principal will serve as an instructional leader of the school.
The Principal will oversee the implementation of schoolwide goals
towards student achievement while evoking the Four Pillars through
the open architecture model. The Principal will work
collaboratively with the Teacher Leadership Team and School
Leadership Team to closely monitor progress towards goals and
implement action steps and strategies towards effective school
improvement.
Specific Responsibilities
Promote the learning and growth of all students and the success of
all staff
Cultivate a shared vision that makes powerful teaching and learning
the central focus of schooling
Ensure a - safe, efficient, and effective learning environment,
using resources to implement appropriate curriculum, staffing, and
scheduling
Effectively partner with families, community organizations, and
other stakeholders that support the mission of the school and
district
Nurture and sustain a school culture of reflective practice, high
expectations, and continuous learning for staff
Provide exemplary leadership to all members of the school's
community to achieve outstanding performance
Dramatically improve student achievement by leading the educational
program
Manage faculty and staff effectively, holding staff accountable for
meeting high standards for student academic and behavioral
performance
Foster commitment among faculty and staff members to the
development and fulfillment of the school's mission and
objectives
Establish and ensure a joyful, structured, achievement-oriented
school culture
Maintain communication and relations with families, ensuring
families are kept involved with and held accountable for their
children's academic and behavioral performance
Oversee students' academic and behavioral program, including
disciplinary decisions, scheduling and class decisions, educational
program, and assessment and accountability
Lead the school's administrative program
Build an effective, efficient, action-oriented, and highly
accountable data analysis and action planning process that ensures
individual student and whole-class deficiencies are overcome after
each interim assessment cycle
Create a highly systematic and wide-ranging network of school-level
supports designed to catch students who are struggling to excel and
act as a safety net to ensure students do not fall behind.
Recruit, interview, hire, evaluate, develop, retain, and, when
necessary, dismiss staff
Qualifications
Current authorization to work in the United States - A candidate
must have such authorization by his or her first day of
employment;
MA DESE Principal/Assistant Principal license in K-5, 6-8, or
eligible for such license; - Experience as a school principal,
director of a public, private or charter school;
Demonstrated record of success in improving low performing schools
or district or the academic performance of marginalized students
(including of economically marginalized students, multilingual
learners, students with disabilities, and students with
disabilities who are also multilingual earners);
Demonstrated record of success in improving outcomes for
multilingual learners while maintaining and promoting their
linguistic and cultural identities;
Demonstrated record of success creating inclusive opportunities,
with supports, for all students with disabilities regardless of
disability type or whether they are performing at grade-level, and
ensuring that the needs of students with disabilities are addressed
proactively in ongoing school-based and district-wide general
education reform efforts;
Experience in developing and managing a budget;
Demonstrated effectiveness as an instructional leader and guiding
school improvement processes;
Experience promoting and establishing practices to equitably serve
indigenous students and students of color;
Experience in communicating and working with a wide array of
community stakeholders including, where relevant, constituencies
within all levels of state and district administration, principals,
teachers, community partners, parents, and other providers in a
coordinated effort to meet education improvement priorities;
Master's degree in the field of education; and
Bilingual/Spanish language skills strongly preferred
