We are a rapidly growing Inc. 5000 Company with over 1000 employees across multiple states. We are searching for a driven individual that will be responsible for managing the payroll operations, including the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and controls to ensure the efficiency and accuracy of the payroll function. This position also ensures compliance with applicable federal and state taxes, laws, regulations, and standard operating procedures. The position is part of the finance team and reports to the Controller.Principal Responsibilities* Manage all aspects of the organization's payroll function. Oversee the maintenance of the organization's payroll files and operations. Resolve escalated customer service issues and complex problems utilizing expertise in payroll policies and laws. Provide advice and guidance to employees of all levels throughout the organization on payroll related matters.* Knowledge of the state and federal laws that govern the payment of wages, taxation, employee benefit administration, garnishments, withholdings, and reporting requirements.* Manage payroll tax related requirements to ensure compliance. Oversee the review of multi-state and federal tax information; the preparation and distribution of W-2 and multi-state tax forms.* Monitor and evaluate current systems and processes and establish and implement policies and procedures to ensure payroll is accurately prepared and distributed in a timely manner. Collaborate with internal and external parties to ensure policies and practices are compliant with applicable legal requirements, government rules and guidance and internal standards.* Communicate regularly with field management and other staff regarding issues affecting payroll and timekeeping.* Responsible for the maintenance of benefit accruals and payroll deductions.* Manage data integrity of payroll information and related time-tracking information.* Manage the payroll team consisting of two payroll associates and serve as backup for running daily payroll processes.* Maintain payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.* Ensure systems are accurately calculating pay for non-standard payroll items, including FMLA, short and long-term disability and regulatory overtime. Manage compliance to court ordered actions including garnishments and attachments.* Oversee or perform monthly reconciliation of payroll accounting information for all payroll general ledger accounts. Resolve any discrepancies in payroll tax filings.* Manage all aspects of payroll related projects, including managing individuals and teams to ensure the attainment of project goals, developing detailed definitions and schedules, and defining resource requirements for special projects. * Stay abreast of regulatory, business and technology changes and industry trends to ensure timely and strategic implementation of best practices and to ensure compliance.* Exercise the usual authority of a manager concerning performance improvement plans and review, promotions, salary recommendations and terminations. Coaches, develops, and inspires staff to maximize their potential.* Work in partnership with the Human Resources department.* Other duties as assignedRequired Skills And Abilities* Expertise in payroll, state and federal taxes, policies, and laws in a multi-state environment.* Excellent PC skills, including Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Word), and Payroll and Time & Attendance software. * Ability to predict future technology needs for the payroll function. Experience selecting and implementing new software technologies preferred.* Ability to inform, educate, and influence employees to support corporate goals and initiatives. Ability to give feedback in a manner that supports employee development.* Excellent project management, analytical and research skills with a demonstrated ability to manage projects from inception through completion.* Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills are needed to effectively convey goals and initiatives to staff and senior management.* Ability to evaluate, analyze and quantify the financial impact of the issues involved. Demonstrated ability to evaluate opportunities for process improvement and the ability to find effective solutions.* Ability to handle escalated situations using superior interpersonal, negotiating, and problem-solving skills.* Ability to recognize and focus on critical issues; flexibility to balance and respond to competing needs within the organization.Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional office environment.
