Certifications: Certificate of Clinical Competence required; Basic
Life Support (BLS) certification preferred Must-Have: Strong

Excellent time management and documentation skills Compassionate
and resident-centered care approach Ability to speak, read, write,
and understand written instructions in English Description: The
Speech Language Pathologist partners with residents and other care
providers to provide Speech Language Pathology services. The goal
is to maximize function and independence in daily activities.
Performs evaluative and therapeutic procedures under the order of a
physician or another accepted healthcare provider. Observes
precautions, indications, and contraindications during procedures.
Provides evaluation and treatment for communication disorders and
dysphagia, including modified barium swallow. Evaluates residents
per department protocols. Establishes a therapeutic plan of care
that includes functional long- and short-term goals. Specifies
frequency and duration of treatment in addition to rehabilitation
potential. Seeks input from residents and primary caregivers
regarding the therapeutic plan of care. Provides consultation to
the referring physician and other members of the healthcare team
regarding therapeutic and discharge needs. Attends all pertinent
team meetings. Monitors and evaluates treatment effects and
progresses the treatment program toward functional goals
established in the treatment plan. Modifies the treatment plan as
necessary. Documents all evaluative and therapeutic interactions
with residents per department procedures. Ensures that
documentation is accessible to others on the care team using
understandable language. Recommends and obtains appropriate
communication and swallowing assistive devices for residents.
Ensures instruction is provided regarding their use. Provides
appropriate education to residents or caregivers and documents the
response to teaching. Understands Medicare, Medicaid, and other
reimbursement regulations. Maintains clinical knowledge, skills,
and competence while sharing expertise with others. Provides
in-services regarding clinical knowledge and skills to nursing and
other departments. Actively assists with the development of new
programs and services in Speech Therapy. Maintains clinical skills
by staying updated through professional organizations and
publications. Brings pertinent issues to the attention of other
staff. Maintains required licenses, certifications, and
competencies and completes annual compliance courses on time.
Coordinates and ensures Speech and Language coverage. Ensures
department cleanliness and maintenance by routinely keeping areas
clean and neat. Assists with routine equipment and space cleaning.
Follows all infection control procedures. Performs other duties
consistent with this role. Must possess the physical and mental
abilities to perform associated tasks involving a combination of
sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and
reaching. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Above 50 pounds
requires a two-person lift. Lifting or carrying frequently up to 20
pounds. Some stress is related to a high level of responsibility
for quality care.
