Apply on Company Website Technical Assistant II, Academic Placement & Testing - Northern Essex Community College Northern Essex Community College Lawrence, MA Posted 22 hours ago Apply on Company Website Job Description: Part-Time Technical Assistant II, Academic Placement & Testing: Academic Placement & Testing; Two (2) vacancies, One (1) position is at the Haverhill Campus and one (1) position is at the Lawrence Campus; 25 hours/week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM, and Wednesday, 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM; Hours will be adjusted to include evening hours during peak times and occasional Saturdays may be required; AFSCME Unit Position. Anticipated Start Date: April 2020 RESPONSIBILITIES: - Under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Student Assessment and the Dean of Academic Support Services, assist with the provision of Testing Services at the Lawrence Campus in the afternoon and early evening. - Greet and assist students in the Academic Placement & Testing Center. - Provide a welcoming environment and assist new students who require testing prior to registration; administer and proctor Accuplacer state-mandated assessments and English as a Second Language testing. - Provide information on test services and answer general phone and walk-in inquiries. - Assist students with sign-in, verify identification, and provide test instructions, monitor and proctoring test sessions. - Administer other testing including but not limited to TEAS Health Professions Testing, proctored and remote testing, testing that requires special accommodations as outlined by the Learning Accommodations Center including testing for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services. - Maintain working knowledge of test regulations and protocols and maintain proctor certifications that are required to perform in the role as a proctor. - Adhere to all established testing policies and regulations; maintain a quiet test environment that is accommodating to the needs of individual students. - Maintain a working knowledge of all testing services and provide general information to students who need assistance with CLEP, Prior Learning Assessments, or other services. - Maintain a general understanding of the entry and onboarding processes for new students. - Answer testing related questions for staff and students. - Participate in special test sessions, including but not limited to early college and private industry testing that may require occasional weekends, early morning or off-site sessions. - Work closely with the Haverhill Campus Testing Center to stay abreast of ongoing changes with test scores, placements, policies, the development of ESL intake appointments and data. - Monitor student traffic, maintain paper and electronic testing files, enter student placements into the college's Banner system, and maintain a general understanding of multiple measures testing and waivers that include SAT scores, HiSET and GED scores. - Disseminate other information to students who are seeking other test information. - Other responsibilities include light data entry and light office work as necessary. - The Classification Specification is available at: Assistant Series.doc Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience in technical work supporting research, instructional or experimental activities or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. - Substitutions: - An Associate's or higher degree with a major in a directly related scientific or technical field such as biology, botany, chemistry, computer science, electronics, horticulture, physiology, zoology, etc. may be substituted for the required experience. - Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed. - Experience required in a fast-paced team oriented office environment with the ability to multi-task - Demonstrated ability to follow directions and pay attention to detail - Demonstrated sensitivity, patience and a customer-service friendly attitude to first-time college students from a wide variety of backgrounds - Strong verbal and organizational skills - Must be comfortable giving detailed instructions to small groups and on an individual, walk-in basis in order to clearly communicate testing instructions - Must be comfortable using technology and computer systems PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Associate's Degree in Human Services, Education or related field - Experience with college entrance assessment, Accuplacer and other test systems strongly - Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office - Bilingual Additional Information: SALARY: $1,042.32 - $1,411.99 biweekly ($27,100.32 - $36,711.83 annually). An appointment from outside the bargaining unit (AFSCME) must start at Step I of the range.
