Job DescriptionThe Case Specialist/Parent Aid will conduct home visits to families who are involved with the Department of Children and Families working on developing skills including parenting skills, anger management, decisions making, organizational and connecting families with community resources. This position will provide comprehensive case management and wrap around services as well as developing family goal plans. The Case Worker will also coordinate services, attend meetings with families, and attend DCF meetings.Case Specialist will be assigned a case load for the housing and homelessness programs. To work with consumers on identifying resources, developing skills to enhance their wellbeing and assist with obtaining and maintaining housing. Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities: • Maintain a case load of 12 +/-DCF families and 2-3 community cases.• Weekly home visits or in an environment deemed appropriate. • Help families identify their strengths and needs, identify their natural support system, community supports, work on increasing knowledge of parenting and age appropriate development, and work with the family on developing coping skills, decision making skills, and organizational skills.• Develop family goal plans, work with families in the 4 stage parent-aide model method.• Clients are experiencing one or more of the following barriers: trauma, mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, homelessness, and there is always one or more types of child abuse and/or neglect.• Conduct supervised visits • Facilitate Parenting Education Groups. • Data Entry – client information into data base• Other duties as assigned based on program's needs. • Have a case load of homeless families/consumers• Work with consumers on money management, resources, employment, coping skills and health living.• Utilize the exchange model parent aid program and positive discipline to ensure fidelity of the program. Skills & Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or related field with 2 years' experience working with families experiencing trauma, mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, homelessness, and child abuse and/or neglect. Licensed social worker preferred.• Experience in Group Facilitation a plus• Knowledge of the "Strengthening Families" model. Case management experience required.• Computer skills in Microsoft Word required.• Bilingual preferred but not required.• Driver's License and dependable car a must. • Some nights and weekends required, on a weekly basis.• Must have a suitable CORI and SORI check completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.Other: Supervisory Responsibility: May be assigned student interns or volunteers to enhance clients served.Travel: To Clients homes, off site meetings, conferences/trainings (can include out of area travel)In area travel to Greater Lawrence, Greater Lowell, Greater Haverhill, North Shore, Metro Boston, and Southern New Hampshire.Physical Demands: This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 10 pounds. Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment and uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines.
